Well the cold snap certainly arrived over last weekend with the first and hopefully last falling of snow this winter. Thankfully most of the snow melted fairly quickly meaning the majority of the course could be back open for play after a couple of days. I saw some very keen golfers set off on a very cold, -3 degree, Wednesday morning. The hard frost did make for a lovely picture but there were definitely some very funny bounces to be had, apparently some were helpful others were not. Judging from their reactions they felt the walk did them all good but the warmth of the clubhouse was a welcome target.
New Vice Captain John Smith and wife Julie, a former Ladies Captain of the club recently collected a nice piece of silver wear from Immediate Past Captain Steve Leng for their success on the golf course, having won the Douglas Faulkner foursomes competition. It could have been two trophies had he and David Jones not lost their Rosebery Cup final on the 20th hole, pipped by pal Stuart Oliver and John Clavey after a see-saw tussle.
New in the shop for 2016.
We have just taken delivery of the new range of Titleist drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons. They all look very pleasing to the eye and perform just as well. If you fancy having a trial with any we do have demos for you to use.
The 915 D2 and D3 series driver breaks new ground by installing a channel in the sole. The depth and length of the channel aren't designed just to help the face flex at impact (for more ball speed). It also helps shots launch with less spin. Both the crown and face have been thinned to save weight and improve what happens when you don't find the centre of the face meaning extra help without losing the classic shape.
The AP1 716 irons have a fast face helping speed, launch and distance. Even more speed and distance comes from the stronger loft with enhanced launch from the high density tungsten, low CG design. Off-centre hits also benefit from the high density tungsten, high MOI design meaning the outcome is not so bad.
The AP2 716 irons are for golfers seeking a Tour-proven design with distance. The irons have a slightly smaller head designed for feel and forgiveness. Speed on off-centre hits is helped from the co-forged high density tungsten weights along the perimeter.
To help you with your distance judging we have the Bushnell Tour V3 laser rangefinder. It's supplied with a battery and carry case to attach onto your golf bag for easy accessibility on every shot and is rainproof.
New JOLT technology makes the unit vibrate in your hand when the Tour V3 has locked onto the pin so you know the yardage is correct and is accurate to within 1 yard. So no more guess work is required.
