Club news

Congratulations to Tom Day who claimed his first singles trophy in his 22 years as a member of the club. Tom, pictured, is being presented with the coveted Croxford Cup by Immediate Past Captain Steve Leng. He won the trophy after a flawless blob-free round, accumulating 42 points to win by a shot.

Gill McDougall came in with a winning score in the Ladies Bogey Competition, her +4 return bagging her top spot one shot clear of Lila Garrod.

In the first round of the Mail On Sunday Club knockout competition the Club beat Bushey Hall GC at home.

Richard Samuels (5) set our team on the way beating Ave D'Sousa (9) 5&3. Sadly our Club Captain Adrian Stephenson (9) lost on the 18th to Gary Fiddler (6). Phil Spratt-Callaghan (8) produced a sterling effort winning the 18th to gain a much needed half against Brendan Madden (7). Manny Barker (10) came from 3 down at the turn to beat Paul Butcher (5) 3&2 Paul Atkinson (6) produced a dazzling chip on the 18th to win the hole and halving his match against James Key (1).

Overall result 3 to 2 for LBGC.

Leighton Buzzard member on tour

One of our members, Paul Johnson, is currently travelling around South Africa following the England cricket team matches.

Paul has had a flag made with the Clubs logo and name on and hangs it up at every game he attends. One eagle eyed viewer managed to record the image of the flag on TV when one the recent games was played.

Our Club logo can be seen on the bottom left of the flag.

Pros news

I've had a few conversations recently where players have told me they're practicing hard but still hitting some really bad shots which ruin the good score they have got going and they end up getting really down on themselves. They think 'what's the point in practicing when they still hit bad shots afterwards and ruin their score'. Well you just have to remember we're not robots and our bodies don't do exactly the same when playing each shot. Practice is very important and as long as you're practising the correct techniques it does pay off if you persist. Our bodies don't move in the same way every day there will always be a slight difference, this is why one day you have a great score and think you've cracked it and the next you hit some really bad shots and your score is much worse. This is what brings us all back to this great game you never know when your best round is going to be.

Click here to see some of the world's best hit some very odd shots. It goes to show that it happens to the best of them.

Don't forget to come into the shop and take advantage of the Golf Pride grip offer, we have a good selection of different grips and we can make sure you get properly fitted for the correct grip size.

Tip of the week

Pace of play

When it is your turn to play, play promptly. Consider your pre-shot routine; saving even a few seconds will make a difference.

- Decide on the shot and execute it.
