Well done to Bubba Watson on winning his second US Masters. The tournament was over after the first nine on the last as the old hand Bubba was in total control. Jordan Spieth put up a good fight but was found wanting in the end, but at 20 years old that man has a bright future. I was particularly impressed with Bernhard Langer and Miguel Angel Jimenez. It was great to see them both finish so far up the field. It just goes to show that class is permanent. Just a small note on Bubba and his technique. That guy knows his game inside and out. It does not matter how you do it as long as you know your own game and the ball gets in play on a consistent basis. My goal as a coach is to educate golfers about what they do so they can in the long term help themselves. We are creatures of habit and we repeat our errors, but once you are aware of them and learn how to fix them you will be on the right path to better golf.
We had our Open day last Sunday and it was extremely busy. We had more than 40 players turn up to play. Prospective members, many from other clubs in the area, played nine holes free to test their skills on our course. They were shown around the club and its facilities. A special mention needs to go to Ken Wilson who works hard as chairman of the membership marketing committee. Ken does a great job leading the committee and integrating new members. Ken greeted visitors on the open day and coordinated activities. Well done Ken..
President David Hawkins says: "This is an ongoing programme which has got off to a great start. We are determined to encourage more people to take up the golf, and our doors remain open to all who want to give it a try and join a user-friendly members' club."
A Special Moment for Two of our Golfers
For those of us who have had a hole in one, we know how special it is. It is such a great feeling seeing that ball go in the hole. That perfect shot or not so perfect shot going in the hole. I have seen scrappy hole in ones and perfect hole in ones. Last Friday Graham Richmond had his first hole in one on the 11th hole and he used an 8 iron to achieve it. Well done Graham! Graham is pictured here being congratulated by our Club Captain Derek Lindley. We had another hole over the weekend and it was from one of our club legends Terry Jordan. Terry was quick to tell me it was off the back tees on the 11th hole where he used a 6 iron. Well done Terry on your great effort. Terry is also pictured being congratulated by club Captain Derek Lindley. There is a famous story about Ben Hogan where he was asked why he had not had more hole in ones. His answer was he would have had more if he had aimed at the hole more often. Unlike most of us Mr Hogan tended to hit it where he aimed.
The Professionals Prize.
There are only a couple of spaces left to enter your team in the popular Professionals prize team competition. You need a team of 3 plus one of your Professionals in the shop playing a format similar to what we play in the Pro Am. That is where the two best scores count out of four. This is competition is played in Stableford instead of medal. This year we will be running the same event. The event is filled on a first come first served basis. The cost is slightly higher than last year. This is to cover expenses as we will need to cover the cost of the professional playing and the cost of still keeping the golf shop going. This year it will be £10 per person which I feel is still great value. Last year's winners were GeorgeBashford, Simon Rossiter and Mark Mccoulough. The winning Professional was the man from true British stock Will Tebbs. We want all of you to play, but we now only have a few spaces available. Please click here to register your interest. Please state which Professional you would prefer to play with. We are all big boys so we won't be offended if you have a favourite Professional.
PING Demo Day
Following our successful Callaway demo day, we have a PING demo day on Friday May 2nd between 12pm and 4pm. PING will have on show their outstanding range of equipment. I myself am using their new i25 irons and they are lovely. Along with their extremely successful G25 range PING have a couple of new options for people to try. I have already mentioned the i25 range, but PING also have a new iron out called Karsten. This iron is the ultimate in forgiveness and gives prodigious distance. It is definitely an iron I would urge you all to try. Please click here to book your slot. Spaces are limited so don't delay.
