I know we talked about the Happy Gilmore shot a few weeks ago but this week is the 20th anniversary of the movie. I personally love the movie as it is about a hockey player that beats the establishment. He hits the ball an extremely long way, has a shocking temper and can't putt to save his life.
Adam Sandler is the main man in the movie and I love Adam Sandler films. I really would love to be able to hit the ball as far as Happy Gilmore but alas it will never happen. I saw the European Tour celebrated the movie with a number of tour players performing the Happy Gilmore shot, so I thought I would provide a bit of entertainment and have a go myself.
Please make sure your sound is turned up so you can hear what I am saying and so you can take in the pure strike (I am allowed to dream).
Please click on the photos to have a look at my video then have a look at the European tour video and see how they pale in comparison.
Trip to El Rompido
I have just returned from my first Spanish coaching trip and it was a great success. The weather was pretty good although it did threaten to rain on the odd occasion and we got wet at one point but I managed to block that out of my mind. The trip really is an intensive few days of golf covering all aspects of the game. The complex we visit is El Rompido near Huelva in Spain. We fly to Faro in Portugal and then drive across to Spain. El Rompido has some fantastic views and two very good golf courses.
The practice facilities are very good and if you manage to escape from their bunkers then you will be able to get out of most that you enter. Here are some comments from my most recent trip.
"Just wanted to say a huge thank you from for another very enjoyable and informative golf tuition break"
"Just to say a massive thank you for such a great trip! I've brought away with me from this trip a great deal - I just need to practise now!"
Congratulations to David Nero it's only five years since David joined the club, and he's already got his name on a handful of trophies. The London cabbie who's now settled in Leighton, is celebrating his best-season yet, having been presented with two trophies and a medal by Immediate Past Captain Steve Leng.
David won the club's Lucking Cup, beating Keith Camp in "extra time" on the 19th hole, and also collected a lead crystal vase for winning the 50th Anniversary Trophy. And for good measure, 16-handicapper David, who says he is "making more effort with my golf," also won a club medal competition.
Dave has been taking lessons with our very own Will Tebbs. Will helped David with his game throughout 2015 and it definitely made a difference. Will is an excellent teacher and has helped many players improve their game. David has also been working on his fitness and flexibility and the results are clearly working for him. It just goes to prove that if you practice the correct things your scores do improve.
Alison Shirville, Barbara Bradley and Jan Harries teamed up to win Ladies "coloured ball" competition with 92 points, beating Avril Simpson, Barbara Rickard and Oonagh Russell by three shots.
PING's new G Range of Woods and irons are now in store. The Driver is now more aerodynamic for more clubhead speed and with new crown technology weight has been redistributed to increase distance, forgiveness and consistency.
The fairway woods have a lower leading edge to help get the ball airborne and the crown has been thinned enabling the weight to be relocated again helping forgiveness. The new Cossover gives the benefit of having the ball speed and launch of a hybrid with the spin of an iron. The irons have a thinner face resulting in more face bending therefore creating more ball speed, a higher trajectory resulting in a longer, higher ball flight that stops quicker.
If you would like to have a FREE go with any of the NEW G Range just come into the shop and we'll get you a demo to try.

Remember, it is so important to get your clubs fitted to you. We offer this service FREE OF CHARGE so please don't hesitate in booking your appointment.
Our Golf Pride grip promotion is still going. We will re-grip your 7 iron FREE OF CHARGE with any of the Golf Pride grips in the promotion. Many players get used to the feel of their grips and don't realise that they have gone past their best. This does have an impact on how hard you grip the club which results in more tension in your forearms making it more difficult to swing the club properly.
So come into the shop and we'll get you properly fitted for your correct grip size and you'll feel the difference.
