Leighton Buzzard Golf Club Golf Director
Having watched the last couple of Fed Ex Cup events on the PGA Tour I've seen Rory McIlroy play a superb final round in blustery conditions to beat Paul Casey and then Dustin Johnson play beautifully again to beat Paul Casey, hopefully third time lucky for Casey. One thing that is very noticeable is the fact that they all obviously hit the ball a very long way and they do it perfectly balanced with great tempo. Balance and tempo is something many amateurs can always work on. Rather than trying to swing really fast whilst trying to hit the ball a long way there tempo goes straight out the window and they certainly don't finish nicely balanced. So next time you're out hitting a golf ball, maybe think about taking a little off the swing speed and aim for a balanced finish, this way your tempo will get better because you will have to slow down your swing in order to achieve the finish. The result is more shots being struck out the centre of the club and the ball goes further without the quick out of control swing. Everybody has their own tempo so try and find yours.

The September Stableford was played on a very wet Saturday where it seemed to be raining either lightly or heavily for whole day. This made good scoring more difficult with only eight players managing to beat par. In Division One its congratulations to Jason Brooks after he beat Steve Richardson on count back when both scored 39pts. With 38pts points were Ken Wilson and Tim Hobday and with 37pts were Simon Goodall and Andrew Vale. With 36pts were Brian Wilson, Simon Thornton, Voja Savic, Shin Bateman and Will Sampson. Division Two was won by Tim Mitchell who scored 39pts and in second was Chris Yirrell after he scored 37pts. With 36pts were Steve Hammond, Tim Martin, Simon Enright and Dan Hill.
