Leighton Buzzard Golf Club Golf Director
DJ Goes To World Number One
Golf has a new World number one in Dustin Johnson and once again it just goes to prove that perseverance and self-belief do pay off. He's has had many setbacks but has managed to come through with determination and a great mind set, which all great players have, they do believe they are better than everyone else. It does help that he hits the ball very long way, he averaged 310.1 yards last year in driving distance with a club head speed of 122.08 mph. This power is achieved through workouts, stretching and technique, all important if you want gain distance.
His swing though is not textbook, with a bowed left wrist at the top of his backswing making the clubface closed, however he turns so powerfully through the ball he makes it work for him and at impact he is in a great position which is where it counts. Every top player has their own pre round warm up that works for them, in general it helps them get their muscles warm and gets their rhythm going from long game to short game. It's something we can all learn from.

Aiming for a younger demographic
The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
