Pros news

Downhill Lies

I was talking to a member the other day about having trouble with downhill lies. We talked about not using a club that is unrealistic for the lie he was on. A lot of people try to bite off more than they can chew. It is natural because we are human and we want a better result, but control is required to be successful.

Unfortunately, the situation may not allow us to take a 3 wood as 5 iron might be the better option. We have a number of downhill lies on our course, for example, the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 15th, the mound on the 16th and the 18th. When playing a shot from a downhill lie aim left of the target as the ball is more likely to fade and place the ball more opposite your higher foot and your weight on the lower foot. This set up will help you to play a downhill lie.

Girls Golf Rocks Success

Our campaign to encourage more girls to take up golf and learn skills that will last them a lifetime has proved to be a great success. Of the 16 who joined our two hour long "Girls Golf Rocks" taster sessions at Leighton, 14 have signed up for a five-week follow-on course.

I have been well supported by County Girls Captain Freya Daniels and County players Louise Eddy, Chantal Fontaine-Geary and Olivia Campbell. We also had Junior organiser Gill Ladd and our own recently qualified PGA Level 1 volunteer coaches Paula Cox and Barbara Bradley and Liz Bagshaw. Thank you to all who have helped.
