Bank Holiday Texas Scramble
Hopefully you all enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend. I know Monday wasn't the best, but the rest of the weekend was great. Given the not so great weather on Monday, plenty of you took part in the Bank Holiday Texas Scramble competition and only one shot separated the top five teams.
The winners on countback were the team of Colin Beesley, Graham Hazel, Dan Latimer and Stuart McLeod, they beat the team of Andy Ashall, Dan Hill, Paul Naudo and Adrian Stannard after both teams scored 50.1.
In third place were Steve Foster, Dave Hanley, Steve Molyneaux and Trevor Stone with 50.6, in fourth place were Dave, Josh & Oli Banwell with Tony Brinded with 50.8 and in fifth place were Steve Gillett, Ben Irvine, Andy Jenkins and Matt Sale who scored 51.1.
The BMW Championships
The BMW PGA Championship showed that you never know what might happen in golf as Alex Noren produced a stunning 62, 10 under par, final round to win the Championship. Considering he finished with a 7 on the 18th hole in the third round, which must have hurt, it just goes to show if you keep trying and some putts start dropping, your confidence soars and all of a sudden a great round is produced when not expected.
How Long Should Your Driver Be?
I was speaking to a member the other day regarding the length of drivers and how difficult it can be to find the middle of the club face and control the club; many tour players play with slightly shorter length shafts in their driver, as it is easier to control and they don't lack in the distance they hit the ball.
The longer the shaft the further away the ball is from you at address, so it is harder to hit; this is why many players hit their 3 wood just as far as their driver and straighter as they find the centre of the club face more often.
This said, to optimise length off the tee with practice you will be able to control the longer driver, especially with the manufacturers producing club heads which still perform on off centre hits.
Click here to see a seriously long driver, but notice the distance the ball goes.
U.S. Open Sweepstake
The US Open is only a couple of weeks away and we have a sweepstake running in the shop, so if you would like to have a little more interest in the Championship come in and put your name in a box or boxes for £2.00 per box and get drawn a player who you can follow for the week. There are shop vouchers to be won.
Leighton Buzzard Pro Am
We are now taking entries for the Leighton Buzzard Pro Am. It is taking place on Wednesday 16th August. With the golf course well and truly moving forward it is a great opportunity to compete with a Professional in a day where you play for some fantastic prizes. It is a comfortable format, with the two best scores out of four counting and you get to play with some of the best PGA Professional golfers in the area.
Our goal is to get to 40 teams this year and we require your support to do this. If you would like to enter a team please click here to register your interest. It truly is a great day at the Club.
