The Open at Royal Birkdale
The Open Championship is only a couple weeks away and being played at Royal Birkdale this year, an awesome golf course where accuracy above length could well hold the key to winning the Claret Jug. It's always difficult to see an obvious winner these days, Henrik Stenson played so well last year beating Phil Mickelson in what seemed to become a matchplay contest, and Stenson shooting a 63 was amazing to watch, but he hasn't had a great past few tournaments.
Others to keep an eye on could be Jordan Spieth after his latest win at the Travelers Championship, Sergio Garcia has a great Championship record and since his Masters win, the pressure is now off for that first Major. Speaking of which Rickie Fowler is still looking for his first Major and if the wind does get up he knows how to handle it and play the shots required. Never discount Rory McIlroy, it just seems to depend on his putting, he keeps switching putters at the moment which is never a great sign, but if he does find what he's looking for he has a great chance.
Then there's Tommy Fleetwood, an outside chance as he hasn't a good Open Championship record, but he finished fourth in the US Open and he won the French Open last week, he's a local man who grew up just down the road, so he'll feel at home at Birkdale.
What I do know is that it will once again be a real treat to watch all these great players battle it out for the greatest trophy in golf. I'm already looking forward to it.
We do have an Open Championship Sweepstake running in the Pro Shop, so for £2.00 per box you can have a little added interest. There are plenty of prize vouchers to be won so why not have a go!

We are now taking entries for the Leighton Buzzard Pro Am. It is taking place on Wednesday 16th August. With the golf course well and truly moving forward it is a great opportunity to compete with a Professional in a day where you play for some fantastic prizes.
It is a comfortable format with the two best scores out of four counting and you get to play with some of the best PGA Professional golfers in the area. Our goal is to get to 40 teams this year and we require your support to do this. If you would like to enter a team please click here to register your interest. It truly is a great day at the Club.
