Nature provided a tough challenge to all golfers over the past week. The wind blew many players off course in the Men's Stableford over the weekend. Only three players managed to master the conditions and score more than 36pts. Simon Goodall scored an awesome 40pts, Mike Manning 38pts and Phil Spratt-Callaghan 37pts. Anyone who scored in the thirties did well to keep their score going.
This game is difficult enough on a still day let alone when it's windy and raining, but there are ways to try and control the ball a little better rather than just hitting the ball and hoping the wind doesn't affect it. By making a couple of adjustments you can keep the ball lower to the ground and out of the wind.
Firstly you can take a lower lofted club and put the ball a little further back in your stance. You then need to swing the club nice and smoothly, by doing this you don't put so much backspin on the ball and it doesn't climb up into the air so easily. When it lands it will run a little further so allow for this.

The Masters is on its way and already there's a buzz about Rory McIlroy maybe winning a Green Jacket for the first time. His game definitely suits the place with his long driving and towering iron shots, but will expectation and pressure take their toll. Also, will Tiger Woods make an appearance, who knows, but it would take a little of the spotlight off Rory. People seem to love watching Tiger even if he's hitting it sideways and fluffing chips, but I'm sure his pride won't let him play unless he's in competitive form. All this said, I can't wait for the start.
