Jordan Spieth showed how the younger generation are relishing the opportunity to play sport on the big stage, winning The Masters the way he did. He obviously had nerves but kept them well under control and certainly wasn't frightened of winning. It was a great demonstration of golf under pressure for the whole week. He also did Dave Roffe a big favour, as Dave had drawn him in our Masters Sweepstake.
Hopefully Dave will now buy himself a green pullover with his winnings to remind himself of his good fortune.

There were tricky conditions for last weekend's Monthly Medal where only six players managed to play to or break par. Ben Proud came out on top with a wonderful nett 64, 2nd place went to Gary Hart with a nett 67 and 3rd was Shaun Cavanagh nett 69. The Winter League was also decided on the same day with Dave Banwell and Jamie Stone winning a closely fought battle on the first extra hole against Steve Light and Peter Morgan.

Mark McLoughlin is still training hard for his charity run for Keech Hospice. If you would like to donate please click here.
I am also training hard in the gym where I am doing interval training. I am time poor so interval is the best for me. It does not take long but gets you extremely fit. I am on a bike at the gym sprinting for a minute then cycling normally for two minutes and then repeating that ten times. My lungs feel like they are going to burst but it clears the cobwebs out and gets me fitter. I once ran a half marathon just by doing interval training. It is tough but it works and is ideal for me. Hopefully the warm weather will continue and help me acclimatise for the Continental weather in June. Fingers crossed.

The Club played their annual match against the French side, Boutigny over the Easter Weekend. Nick Clarke had a good game with Steve against the French and we were pleased to win our match 3&2. Nick said "I have not seen many 14 handicappers hit the ball as well as Steve". The overall result was a tie 2 matches a piece, which meant we retained the Trophy (Ryder Cup style) as current holders! The other winners for LBGC were Val Berry partnered by Freya Daniels. The French opposition which included their star David Nougerede commented on how impressive they played. In the other two matches which the French won courtesy of help from Lorraine Leaver and Harry Adam partnering two French players!
The Club will be returning to France on Friday 18th September for 4 days to defend the Trophy and if any members wish to join our party please contact either Kevin O'Donoghue or myself Nick Clarke!
