The Open Championship ended up being a wonderful treat of great golf and a real nail biter of a finish. As many as six players had a chance of claiming the Claret Jug with nine holes left to play, it was all down to who could keep their game together the best. Zach Johnson proved you don't have to have a perfect grip, his is quite strong, but you do need to know how to control the clubface and how important a good short game and self-belief is. Jordan Spieth showed his amazing ability to play great golf under extreme pressure, trying for the calendar Grand Slam, only to come up one short. I felt sorry for Paul Dunne, the amateur, nerves obviously got to him, but what a great week for him hopefully he remembers the good stuff and doesn't dwell on what happened on Monday afternoon.

In our Open Sweepstake Andrew Pickering was the lucky winner with Josh Banwell picking up both players tied for second.
The President's Putter Competition had a large field with players teeing off from 7am all the way through to 2.15pm. Our Club President John Preston managed to wish all the players good luck for their rounds when they passed him on the first fairway. On a beautiful day the winner by three shots was Julian Scarr with a nett 63, Mike Bluett, Josh Rowles, Tommy Thorne and Mark Hammond all managed nett 66. After the golf the President held a barbecue with entertainment which was enjoyed by a packed clubhouse.
Mid Handicap Team news from Paul Ellam
We played 8 matches which resulted in 4 home wins but unfortunately lost all 4 away matches. In 2 away matches we lost 3 -2, no less than 4 of the 5 games went to the 18th. In the very last match, which was away to 'The Bedford' last Sunday, we were defeated with the very last putt of the match. We believe if we had won this match we might have qualified for the knockout stage. We now have to rely on other teams results to have a slight chance of qualification.
We are now taking entries for the Leighton Buzzard Pro-Am. It is taking place on Wednesday 19th August. With the golf course well and truly moving forward it is a great opportunity to compete with a Professional in a day where you play for some fantastic prizes.
It is a comfortable format with the two best scores out of four counting and you get to play with some of the best PGA Professionals in the golfing in the area. Our goal is to get to 40 teams this year and we require your support to do this. If you would like to enter a team please click here to register your interest. It truly is a great day at the Club.
This week's pace of play tip
If you think you may have lost your ball, play a provisional, that way you won't have to walk back to the place you have just hit from, saving time and keeping your game flowing.
