Leighton Buzzard Golf Club Golf Director
|Greetings from Maurice Campbell|
|Leighton Buzzard Golf Club - Golf Director|
The weather is certainly keeping everyone on their toes, last Friday afternoon the Club played against the Staff in lovely conditions. The Club managed to win the match 3.5 to 1.5. Club Captains' Steve Leng and Debbie Pollard-Barns scraped a point by winning the last hole against Jenny Jagger and Paul Harris. John Preston and Phil Whitecross were the only pair to lose against the duo of Ian Soper and Callum Campbell again on the last hole where Callum made a nett birdie much to the delight of John and Phil. David Hawkins and John Smith had a convincing win against Damian Hill and Phil Coumbe. After Damian's first tee shot he thought his two year layoff hadn't done him any harm, sadly he was wrong. Angela Samuels and Mike Smith had a friendly half with Jason Waddington and Ed Stephenson despite Jason playing his best ever front 9 holes and lastly Simon Rossiter and Ken Wilson won their match 2up against Mike Manning and David Coleman.
On a beautiful hot and sunny Saturday the Men's August Monthly Medal saw Gordon McLaren beat a large field of players by scorching around to win with a nett 65 by a shot from Voja Savic's nett 66. In joint third place with nett 68's were Billy O'Neill and Jack Gammage. Then the weather changed and on a very wet and wintery Sunday, Julie and John Smith won the Faulkner Family Foursomes with a nett 69. In second place on countback were Kate and Mark Knight with Sandra and Brian Carter coming third both with nett 73.5.
Last week I mentioned how the game of golf was in good hands with the younger generation of professionals and it is also great to see at the age of 51 Davis Love III became the third oldest winner of a PGA Tour event, the Wyndham Championship. With the latest club and ball technology it shows that getting the correct set up of clubs and ball players who might think they cannot compete anymore do actually find themselves still hitting good distances, meaning the set up they had a few years ago suited them then but wouldn't now. So getting your clubs regularly checked to see if they are still the correct set up for you is essential to keep playing to your best. Feel free to come into the Pro Shop to discuss your golf or clubs and we can talk about how best to achieve the results you are looking for.
Morley Smith and I are holding an event on Sunday 27th September at 7.00pm where we will be taking you through our Spanish Adventure which we completed earlier this year. The evening will consist of a three course meal, choosing from a French, Spanish or English menu, and us reliving our adventure in a funny (hopefully), light hearted way.
The evening will cost £20 per person of which £3 will go to the Captain's Charity. If you would like to join us for this fun evening please contact the Golf Club bar.

One of the quickest ways to save strokes is to equip yourself with a golf GPS. Better course management will help you keep double bogeys off the card - so check out our GolfBuddy range in store, which features handheld, laser and wearable devices, all of which will help you to lower your scores.
For some of us, all we want to make the game easier is more distance, especially from iron to iron. In this video we discuss Wilson's D200 irons, clubs that certainly tick the distance box. If you are thinking about new irons and distance is a big factor for you, ask in store about the D200's...
