Hopefully you still managed to enjoy the August Bank Holiday even though the rain kept on coming down. Thankfully it didn't dampen the spirits of the John Lally Texas Scramble players with a large field still completing their rounds. Paul Ellam, Keith Edmunds, Steve Richardson and John Latimer teamed up and won with a nett 54.55. In second place were the team of Derek Lindley, Brian Wilson, Pete Townley and Andy Lock with nett 54.65. Third place went to Pete Gadsden, Barry Wills, Andy Ashall and Phil Coumbe with nett 54.90.
The wet weather does put many players off in the competitions and they tend to give up on their score and just want to get dry. This means your chances of winning the competition get better if you have managed to prepare yourself for the conditions and keep trying on every shot. Having the correct waterproof clothing not only keeps you dry and warm it also helps you to just concentrate on your golf rather than worrying about getting wet and catching a cold.
You can kit yourself out from head to toe with waterproof clothing. To keep your head dry there are waterproof caps and bucket hats to stop water going down the back of your neck. Then there is a waterproof suit to keep your body dry, the Sunderland suits have stretch panels in the jacket so you can still swing the club with freedom and not feel restricted and comes with a three year waterproof guarantee. So you can keep your grip on the club when it's raining FootJoy offer a Raingrip glove which actually grips the club better when it's wet rather than dry and lastly a good pair of waterproof shoes to keep your feet dry.
Some golf bags are also manufactured with waterproof materials like the Callaway AquaDry and the Motocaddy Dry Series. Other things you can do are keeping several towels and gloves in the bag, if you put these items in a polythene bag inside the golf bag it makes sure you don't pull out a soggy glove where the rain has penetrated the golf bag.
All these preparations will help you enjoy your golf a little more when it's raining, which seems to be quite often at the moment.
