Greetings from Maurice Campbell
Leighton Buzzard Golf Club - Golf Director

Greetings golfers,

Autumn looks like it has arrived and it brings with it some beautiful scenery with the leaves changing colour and some wonderful bright but chilly mornings. When playing at this time of year there are certain challenges that occur, like leafs falling from the trees making it tricky to find your ball when you've hit it offline. Many a player has said "there's your ball" only to discover it's a leaf. However, as the leaf's do come down, the fairways do seem to look wider, which is always nice. It is also the time of year when you can hit the ball out of sight, as the sun is so low in the sky, just as you look up to see your ball soaring toward the green you are immediately dazzled by the sun and can't see a thing for a couple of minutes then you have to rely on the honesty of your playing partners. One great advantage when playing at this time of year is when you do hit it slightly offline the ball doesn't take a massive bounce into a bush or ditch, with the softer ground conditions the ball finishes nearer to where it lands giving you the opportunity to play a wonderful recovery shot and continue on your way.

Some of the Club's knockout competitions have been completed and it's congratulations to Matt Hill for winning the 36 hole final of the Peter Taylor Scratch Trophy, he managed to beat George Sadowski on the 28th hole. In the Lucking Cup it's congratulations to Dave Nero who beat Keith Camp in a very tight match on the 19th hole. Lastly in the Seniors Trophy congratulations go to Terry Roe after he beat Stuart Leslie

In the Seniors Austen Farrell Trophy, played on Wednesday, Trevor Stimpson managed to beat Rob Tate on countback after both scored 38pts and Peter Myrants finished in third place with 37pts.

Winter time is always a good time to work on improving your game. You can put the time into practicing what you have been taught so when next Spring arrives you'll ready and confident to play your best as the changes that have been made will feel more natural and not so awkward. All aspects of your game will be analysed and worked on so that you can play better, more enjoyable golf.

Will, Wayne and I offer packages of 4 lessons for the price of 3, or 7 lessons for the price of 5

Whether you are looking to get your name on the boards in the clubhouse for Trophy winners or trying to get your handicap down just contact the Pro Shop and we'll get started on helping you with your technique and practice habits so you can achieve your goal.

Golf Care

Are you taking a risk?

Every time we hear someone say they don’t have golf insurance, we wince. The potential costs associated with injuring someone with a stray shot, for example, should be enough to make you think about taking out a policy. We can help find a suitable policy that covers you with our recommended insurance provider, Golf Care, here…
