On a beautiful Saturday the Henley Cup was played and won by Chris Ive on countback from Alan Roberts. Both players managed to be 5up against the course in this bogey/par competition. In third place were Phil Coumbe and Peter Burgoyne on 3up.
Thirteen other players managed to beat the course in this difficult format. Anyone who manages to halve or beat the course has played very well. The course never seems to make a mistake.
Daily Mail Foursomes
Sunday also saw some lovely weather, it almost felt like summer. Perfect conditions with the Daily Mail Foursomes 2016 Qualifier taking place. Julian Heffron and Len Neal took the honours with a nett 68, they will now represent the club in the Regional Finals, closely followed by Neale Proud and Jason Cobb who scored a nett 68.5 and were left rueing a bad 5th hole.
John Preston teamed up with Niki Clark to win the Davis Cup in a final against former club skipper John Bateman and Lila Garrod which went into "extra time." The event pairs men and women in a knock-out competition played over the summer and autumn months, and while John has been a regular and has won the trophy on two previous occasions, it was only the second time Niki has taken part. After getting a flying start, John and Niki were pegged back, the match being all-square after 18 holes.
The result was determined by a sudden death extra-hole play-off. "It was a bit daunting being drawn to play with the Club President, but he's very supportive and encouraging" said Niki, who herself is no stranger to golfing success. Niki has won a string of competitions including the Olive Wood trophy, Buckmaster trophy, Challenge Cup and Chris Gretton trophy.
Dare I mention it but Christmas is not far away. In the shop we have a wide range of products that would make ideal presents. Club crested pullovers, lined pullovers, mitts, towels and caps. Together with Odyssey and PING putters, Sunderland and Under Armour waterproofs and much more.
Don't forget about our Titleist ball promotion where you can have FREE personalisation printed on the side of each ball, a very popular gift for all golfers. They can be ordered in the shop or via my website and you can collect them from the shop.
With plenty of free parking there's no need to trawl around packed car parks trying to find that elusive space and there's no need to have that last minute long wait at the Post Office to pick up a parcel that you ordered off the internet and it was delivered whilst you were out. We can offer you great service and advice in a great relaxed atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you.
Now winter time is upon us our teaching studio tends to become a more popular place when giving lessons. Obviously staying dry and warm is a lot more pleasant when learning and with the use of our Flightscope you can see the improvements that are made.
With the data of your swingpath, clubhead speed, angle of attack into the ball and clubface at impact all measured it is easy to see how the adjustments made in your swing relate to a better ball flight.
Click here to see a clip of Louis Oosthuizen's data on the flightscope.
