Last Friday night was the Captain's Supper which was a great success and all who went seemed to have a very enjoyable time. The evening was topped off by hypnotist Grant Saunders who managed to entertain everyone with his powers. Steve Schmidt was the centre of attention for most of the hypnosis session, he was cuddled up to, danced with and the butt of other pranks which he took with a great sense of humour. The hypnotist did say that when they came around their golf would be better, this I still need to find out.

On Sunday the Captain v Vice Captain match was played in beautiful but cold conditions. With a full field of players it was Vice-Captain Adrian Stephenson's team which came out strongest and managed to beat Steve Leng's team quite convincingly.
Postman Manny Barker has had a weekend to remember. On Friday, he was named by Steve Leng as his 'Player of the Year' at the Captain's Supper......on Sunday, he played AGAINST Steve and partner Philip Spratt Callaghan, teaming up with Vice Captain Ada Stephenson to post a three hole victory that helped the Vice tsecure a 10-hole victory over the red-shirted Captains' squad.
Neale Proud, a 52-year-old professional tennis coach, is the new holder of Leighton's Groves Trophy after beating Ian Alexander with just one hole to play.
For 8-handicap golfer Neale was in arrears for most of the cup-final round before a spirited fight back saw him go two holes up on the 17th to win his first major trophy.
A former club junior, Neale rekindled his love of golf three years ago, playing regularly with dad Danny, Cedars student son Ben and other family members.
As I mentioned last week the European Tour 2015 season came to its conclusion and Rory McIlroy did what he had to do and managed to win the Order of Merit yet again with some exceptional golf. It was great to see that many of the players who were in the frame for the European no.1 spot were still in contention going into the weekend making it far more interesting. Click here to see how he won it.
Pace of Play tips
Keep up with the group in front.
- Do not worry about the group behind - keep up with the group in front:
- If you feel that your group is falling behind take responsibility and bring this to the attention of the other players in your group.
- If you lose a clear hole and are delaying the group behind invite the group behind to play through.
- If there is no group in front of you and you are delaying the group behind invite the group behind to play through.

According to FootJoy, a worrying 50% of you are playing golf in a glove that’s too big for you – which will present grip issues. You might be fine, but ask us the question next time you’re about to head out for a round. Can’t do any harm, can it?

For those of you looking for extra distance, Wilson’s Dx2 Soft could be the answer, with its extremely soft feel. Now’s not a bad time to experiment with the ball you play, and we’re here to help advise you. May we also suggest trying a yellow ball, ideal for this time of year?

The clue's in the name - WhisperDry. It's what all golfers want, to keep dry when the heavens open without having to play in heavy, restrictive clothing. This jacket delivers on both fronts - and it looks fantastic, too.
Often, playing at this time of the year can highlight any problems you may be having with distance. The course will be playing longer, but if you're really struggling with getting the yardages you need through your irons set, then Wilson Staff's D200's should be on your try list.
